United States: Internet tax Moratorium Extended Until 2007
Story dated 07 January 2005
This is actually older news, but it is important. No government of ours should ever be allowed to tax the internet. The internet in its current form is a truly free medium for communication. In a way, it embodies the pure spirit of the First Article of Amendment to the Constitution for the United States of America. If the internet were taxed, I could no longer afford to maintain the blog or any of my other web sites since I make little money (so far) doing this. As it stands not, anyone with a computer and a modem can access the internet wand start their own web site or blog for free. If the internet were taxed, this would change. Aside from the economic discouragement from engaging in unprofitable communication, the power to tax is the power to control or destroy. Looking at public housing, the post office, and Congressional accounting methods, do you really want the government to have any control over the internet? Keep a close eye on this and be ready to support a renewal of this moratorium in three years.
