US dissolves tsunami aid 'core group,' to work under UN
Story dated 06 January 2005
"The United States announced Thursday it was dissolving the "core group" of nations it formed to expedite aid for victims of the Asian tsunami disaster and would work under the United Nations. Secretary of State Colin Powell told an international conference here that the core group, initially formed with India, Japan and Australia, had "served its purpose" in catalyzing relief efforts. "It will now fold itself into the broader coordination efforts of the United Nations as the entire international community works to support the nations who have suffered this tragedy," he said in prepared remarks."
And just who authorized the Bush Administration to take our tax money and give it to the UN to spend? They have not proven themselves to be responsible with money and they certainly have not proven themselves to be friends of the US. The UN is a corrupt organization and ought not be trusted with so much money. With what little oversight we have over the accounting practices of the United States government, it is still more oversight than there is at the UN, apparently.
