Are Republicans for Smaller Government?
Remember the Contract with America and the Republican Revolution of 1994? I had such high hopes then. It seems, however, that Republicans can be just as bad as Democrats when it comes to government spending.
Consider
this article. It examines how the so-called Republican control of Congress is turning into a triumph of the political left... the Democrats are only upset that it isn't they who are accomplishing it.

I think a major problem is that not enough is being done at the local government level. The Congressional Republicans feel no pressure to shrink the size of government because state and local governments are not backing up the people. The Conservative movement has been successful over the past dozen years at getting Republicans elected, both at the federal level and at the state level. But that's the problem, we just look to see if there's an (R) next to the name. Consequently, these so-called Republicans that get elected are not all that Conservative when it comes to the size of government. We are electing the same people to State and Federal positions. You'd think that the State government would be more in tune with what the people want, but the don't have to be because our eyes are always on Washington. They don't really have to behave. If they were behaving, they would be putting pressure on the national government to recognize the Tenth Amendment.
I like your blog, and will add itto my blog roll, but I think you're going about this the wrong way. We need more blogs to focus on local issues, so people can keep an eye on what's giong on in their community. We the People need to elect Libertarians to our local municipal and county governments. And then to state governments. If we can accomplish this, then our local and state governments will be echoing our own concerns when they communicate with their Federal counterparts. The current situation we are presented with is a collegial relationship between local and federal governments. This is bad for us. The philosophy behind my web log, The Sentinel of Alachua County, Florida, is that We the People, should first act where it is the easiest for us to be effective, at the local level, and to build a strong foundation of freedom at the local level. The pressure from the bottom will have an impact on federal politics when elections come around. We have a long way to go in Alachua County, though. Because of the University of Florida, too many socialists have made their home in the area.
I like your blog, though, and will add you to my blogroll.
