U.S. House Votes in Favor of Fencing Off the Mexican Border
The 260-159 voice vote on an amendment to a bill on illegal immigration "mandates the construction of specific security fencing, including lights and cameras, along the Southwest border for the purposes of gaining operational control of the border.Notice the numbers. 101 more representatives are in favor than are opposed. This is very good news... it shows that on some level, Congress still pays attention to the People (unlike the President, the ACLU, and various other entities who think Mexico should write our immigration policy).
And of course, the Mexicans, the ACLU, La Raza, and other Latino-supremacist groups are going to complain. Our government, though, needs to remain strong and speak for we the People. This is our country, and WE are going to decide how people can cross our borders.
We, the natives, are restless -- it's time our government started listening to us. I just hope the Senate is as reasonable.

Currently in my speech class we are doing persuasive speeches. One of the people did something about we having to learn Spanish to help them "assimilate"
That goes down as the next teenage dumb quote of the week, possibly the year.
We should not only fence the border, but start cancelling any translations of public documents into Spanish. If they can't read English...let them learn.

As much as it annoys me, I do not object to private companies issuing documents in Spanish. However, to reinforce the idea Scriptor introduced, it is wrong for our own government to issue public documents in Spanish. It is wrong because we the People are forced to pay for this service. We were here first, and we speak English. The onus is on the newcomer to learn our ways, not the other way around. When in Rome, people... it's only polite. How would the Mexicans like it if millions of us started moving to Mexico and demanding that they accomodate us in English?
For those of you who live in Florida, English is the official language of the state. It is illegal for the State of Florida, or any of its subdivisions, to use any language other than English for official business.
