Michael Crichton's Newest Book, State of Fear, Makes Waves -- Political Leftists Excommunicate Him Story dated 02 January 2005
In his latest book, which I fully intend to read, Michael Crichton challenges one of the central dogmas of the leftist political faith -- manmade global warming. Though this book is a work of fiction, it deals with very real issues of official state pseudoscience, and the militant, terrorist nature of the radical environmental movement. I have often pointed out that leftists act more like religious fanatics than rational political thinkers. To be a leftist, you have to believe that abortion is not murder and that global warming is manmade; if you don't, they consider you to be evil. Rational arguments to the contrary have no effect. Crichton, being the bright guy he is, picked up on this theme: "Crichton admits his Hollywood cronies express horror at dinner parties as he expounds his theory. In response, he has made the prize chump in State of Fear a Hollywood star who dribbles on about saving the planet. Forget limousine liberals, Crichton's new target is "Gulfstream environmentalists"... "I am asked to discuss it -- the kind of 'Why are you a heretic?' conversation," he says. "Often they are in the entertainment industry and on the boards of environmental groups. It soon becomes clear they have no information, only attitudes.""
I am pleased to see that such an intelligent writer as Crichton obviously is has reached the same conclusions I have about certain things. I have always admired his writings, and I have admired him as a person since I heard an interview with him on NPR (guess they won't be having him back anytime soon...). I am thrilled to find out that he is consistently logical in his thinking, as I try to be (too many people I meet have logical disconnects in their thinking and don't necessarily reach similar conclusions when dealing with similar premises). I encourage everyone reading this to read his new book.
--------- Michael Crichton Denounced for His Honest Conclusion that the Concept of Manmade Global Warming is Rubbish
"The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary."
