Fair Tax -- Flat Tax With a Positive Twist

The Fair Tax, is the best idea I have ever heard of. It would eliminate the evil IRS and it would be the end of progressive taxation that makes it so hard for those of us who are not already rich to become so. It would also almost completely eliminate the Congress' ability to buy votes from people. The current plan is to replace all federal taxes with a single 23% national retail sales tax. And no, this would not raise the prices of goods -- these prices would likely fall since corporations would not pay income taxes and no raw materials would be taxed -- only end consumer products would be taxed. All you leftists complaining about U.S. companies going off shore? Our tax structure is one of the leading causes of this phenomenon. The Fair Tax would make the United States the biggest tax shelter in the world. Imagine what effect this would have on our economy -- companies from all over the world would be trying to come here.
